 In a recent interview with Center Stage: Abandoned Albums Seth timbs told the story on how he and Matt Mahaffey met. Coincidentally he also gave one of if not the first telling of how exactly Ella Minopy was formed. Now I promise after this post we will move on from Ella Minopy but this story is too good to not retell. So the story goes that Seth Timbs and The Mad Hatters , the first known Seth band, had a gig opening for 1492. Aka, Brian Carter’s band. At the time Mahaffey was their drummer so when they got to the venue he was unloading his drums from the truck. Seth was playing some obscure Prince bootleg and Matt recognized the song it was on. When Mad Hatters were playing Matt told Carter that they could be great if they had a better drummer.. “LIKE ME!”  So, soon after somehow after Matt and Seth “bonding” over Prince bootlegs, they decided to kick out that drummer and have Matt join.  As most of you will come to understand, this is a blog about Spongebath Records and one of the most mysterious bands to ever come out of the Pre-Ounces and Pre-sElf world was a group called Ella Minopy. I’ll have to do a blog about the story on how this group formed but all you have to know is that it’s essentially a supergroup that was formed before the members were superheroes. Seth Timbs: Piano, Vocals. Matt mahaffey: Drums and possibly vocals. Gary Miller, bass. Brian Rodgers, Guitar. There is some possibility Seth played guitar, but no confirmation. Now, for a long time there wasn’t anything much about the group on the internet but not too long ago the track listing and back and front of the cassette tape surfaced on Discogs for “Lower Case G’s.” The only studio or in the words of speculation from @juanhorsetown— “Semi-studio?” release from the group.
